LG Optimus Black - I Want

according to famous pinoy blogger yugatech.com, the LG Optimus Black has just arrived in the Philippines and will have a very friendly retail price of Php 19,990.00 only!

i have to admit i'm a bit delayed in owning the latest gadgets.. right now, i'm still using Nokia E72.. love the texting experience with its full physical qwerty pad.. and i'm still using an old Nokia 6131 flip phone.. :)

so for the next upgrade, i'm looking forward in getting myself an android full touch screen phone.. there are a lot to choose from.. but i think i'm just going to stick with the mid-range android phones out there..

i'm not going to spend more than 20k for a mobile phone.. :)

i was thinking of getting the samsung galaxy ace if ever i can't resist the temptation anymore.. good thing i am good at it.. cause i've just read the good news.. LG Optimus Black has arrived in the Philippines and the retail price is within my mobile budget limit.. i'm not in a rush in getting one ASAP though..

published-Statement (take 2)

bought a copy of 07/08 Statement Mag issue yesterday. happy to find that both assignments were published and included in that issue.

did i mention on my previous post that i'm really thankful and happy for the experiences cause i have benn learning a lot from each assignment i receive?

as i've said, i have very limited gears. but it proved to be an advantage for my third assignment (Sanso's profile portrait).. we did the shoot in his studio. there were a lot of paintings (his works) in his studio and the space to setup light and all is very limited. having only a 6 foot light stand, a shoot through umbrella and an external canon speedlite 430ex were ideal for the scenario.. they are my best buddies anyway.. :D

yey! hope that i get more assignments in the future.. :D

published-Statement

my first published assignment for a magazine was from the Statement Magazine (Philippines).

got the assignment 1 day before the scheduled appointment with the magazine's subject. very short noticed indeed. the assigned photographer was not available the last minute. and my friend Jethro, who has been contributing articles to the magazine, referred me..

i hesitated to accept at first, but then i realized that if i do not accept it now, when will be the right time? i don't have the complete gears as all other pros have.. my equipment are rather old and basic.. fortunately, i accepted the assignment.. the magazine only needed 1 profile portrait of their subject anyway, preferably whole body portrait.. and out of 100 photos that i planned to take, i think i'd be able to come up with one descent shot.



shooting for the first time (for magazine), i didn't really know what to do.. i have been into photography since 2007. i believe i have the basic skills and knowledge in taking good pictures. but taking photos as a hobby is far from taking photos as a profession.. for one the pressure would really get into you once you got the assignment. i have no idea who the subject was.. i have to think what the editor and readers expects. and of course, i didn't know if my best is good enough for the majority/public..

the experience of shooting for work is very different from shooting for pleasure.. i was very nervous before the shoot started.. but as the shoot went on, i just did what i always do when shooting.. focus and click the shutter.. well i did set up the light/ strobe a little.. but didn't exactly know what the result would be.. :p

to my surprise, i was finished within an hour. i was already happy and contented with the photos i took so far (hmm i don't think i reached 100 photos).. i always thought i shoot slow.. but anyway, before the day ends, i was able to submit 3 photos of my choice (the magazine only needed 1)..

i never really expected that my photos will be chosen and published. after a month, my friend texted my that he got my copy of Statement magazine, yes it's a complimentary copy. YEY! i got my copy the day after the awesome news.. right then and there, i was given heads up for yet another assignment for the magazine.. this time, i was really very very, pressured.

the shoot for my second assignment was yesterday, June 29, 2010. i will submit the photo within today or tomorrow, and i just hope that it gets published too.. yesterday's shoot, didn't go that well for me.. the weather condition and subject are perfect.. but i failed, clearly.. :c i have no excuses, but i guess i was really nervous and starstruck.. still unacceptable excuses..

i am thankful, though, it seems that each assignment (challenge), so far has given me the chance to learn new skills and to improve myself even more... (but i definitely need to upgrade my gears, starting with my camera, a Canon 5D Mark 2 and a Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8 would be great)... lessons learned and enjoyed every moment of it..

Bing the latest search engine by Microsoft

good friend just informed me about this new search engine by Microsoft.

aside from the common search keyword input text box and links for search types (web, images, video, news, travel, maps, etc.), this new search engine features some photos on its main page with some interesting facts about the photo.

search results page is pretty much similar to that of other search engines when it comes to appearances, but with some cool new features when viewing images and video search results.

for images search results, it only displays the photos form search results, you'll only be able to see those images' properties (file name, dimensions, file size, source, etc.) when you hover your mouse pointer to specific photos.



another cool feature this search engine offers is its video results. users can now play or preview the video just by hovering their mouse pointer to the video clip you wished to view. don't have to go to the site in order to view your video. this lessen the risks of ending up at any malicious web sites.

and guess what? after watching the video. kinda felt, i don't know, weird maybe or something.

scandals idols playoffs and my dsl

first of all, i'm thankful that PLDT has already fixed our connection. after ranting and posting my blog entry, i immediately called PLDT hot line.

good think they did go to our home the day after i called and, reconfigured our connection. technical staff even left me a note saying that my connection speed is now 3,444 kbps.

upon checking our current speed, i get the speed below.



not bad actually. just right for our plan, just what pldt is currently advertising on their website.

so thanks to pldt for fixing our connection.

ok next, hmm everybody's talking about the controversial Dr. Hayden Kho video scandals. i'm such a loser, i haven't watched them yet.. i just feel sorry for the all the girls involved on those videos. currently there are 3 videos or 5 i think. i woudn't want to mention their names here on my post but, it's not like anybody would not know who the people in the videos were. well except for one i guess. the brazillian? and just heard or read from the news that the video holders are going to release some more video scandals of Hayden. i also heard that he has around 40? videos.. anyway, we are indeed living in a strange, odd world.

moving on, it's about the new american idol.. Kris Allen is the new american idol. yey! haha! but to be honest, either of final 4 wins, i think it's ok for me. but i personally hoped Allison would win. guess the judges never allowed young idols haha!

next the nba playoffs. damn, i think i missed nba's entire season.. but i'm happy that orlando made it to the conference finals. never expected denver would enter the finals too. but o well, it's just me, never was updated with nba this season. what's Grant Hill's (cool eh? he has his own website) team now? hahah! and i just saw la clippers have selected their first draft pick already. btw, the playoffs standings are now 2-1 denver leading the series over lakers, and 1-0 between cleveland and orlando. go magic! haha!

hmm i guess that's it for now. haven't got the time to post new photos yet. haven't got the time to organize photo shoots. and work takes most of my time these past few weeks!

PLDT plan 1995 problem. they suck!!!

PLDT MyDSL plann 1995 classic sucks! up til now we are still getting the speed below..

our normal speed, before they admitted that they are having a problem with their connections about a month ago, should be around 1.2 Mbps..

considering PLDT haven't approved my request to upgrade our speed to 2 Mbps like what they are promoting at their website.. we always pay on time.. we do feel like they have been cheating on their subscribers! what's up with that? why thay haven't been fixing our connections yet? do we still need to follow our connection status in order for them to reconfigure our connections?

and calling pldt support has always been a hassle, their technical staff are only available during weedays office hours. i mean, people do go to work.. how are they going to reach us if we're not home? and requesting for their technical staff to contact us on our mobile phones? they never happened and they never do.. i never received any calls from them or even text when instructed. they'd always call and try to reach you through your land lines. and if they weren't able to reach you or talk to you, they'll just set your request for fix report/status as done, but contact person wasn't home. see how efficient they are?

i did clearly asked or instructed or request the hotline agent to please inform their technical staff or whoever will contact me through my mobile phone instead.. so what now? should i leave for work in order to wait for their technical staff? and then what? just wait for them to tell me that they are having a problem right now and they are already fixing it?? haay..



this is our connection for a month now and i believe we've just paid our monthly bill l2 weeks ago.. PLDT is indeed unfair and their support really sucks!!!

swine flu and others

just want to update my blog about anything. monday seems kinda starting slow for me. either that or i'm still too tired to even use my brain and think or work..

anyway, it's about weeks after who announced the outbreak of the pandemic swine flu. been reading about it and til now, there are often part of our daily headlines.

the following are some facts about the pandemic swine influenza or famously known as swine flu (N1H1).

the virus
swine influenza or swine flu, is a respiratory disease in pigs caused by a certain strain type of influenza A virus. outbreak of this among humans are not common. most people get infected with swine flu through contacts with pigs. the severity of swin flu in humans can vary from mid to sever.

how the virus spreads
although people commonly get swine flu through contact with pigs, there have been cases of person-to-person transmission. experts think that coughing, sneezing, and contaminated surface can spread the infection among people, but it's still unknown how easily that happens.
however, virus cannot be obtained through eating properly cooked pork and any pork products.

symptoms
the symptoms of swine flu are similar to that of common flu:
cough
fever
soar throat
body ache
chill and,
fatigue
it may also cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions. diarrhea and vomiting have also been reported as symptoms of the said epidemic.

treatment
antiviral drugs such as, oseltavimir or zanavimir, are recommended for treatment and prevention of swine flu. they are prescription medicines that helps prevents flu viruses from reproducing in the body and work best if treatment is started within 2 days of the onset of the mentioned symptoms.

prevention
here are a few prevention tips to protect yourself against swine flu as well as seasonal influenza.
avoid close contact with people who are sick.
stay home when you are sick. this shall help in preventing others to get sick as well.
cover your mouth and nose when sneezing and coughing.
wash hands frequently to prevent germs from spreading.
avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to avoid germs or infection.
practice other good health habbits like getting plenty of sleep, keeping physically active and eating well.

so there, i should get plenty of sleep every night, which i don't usually get anymore these days.

other updates about my self. i just conquered mt pinatubo yesterday. my body is quite tired from the trekking activity we've had, more or less 1 hour of trekking going to the site and another 1+ hour going back. it was a great experience. will be posting some photos i took during the trip.

i am hoping to do more shoots starting this week! yey!
