something that china has been preparing since last year. it's this year's beijing olympics. it's going to happen this august 08,2008. 8 has been considered as a very lucky number in chinese. that's why they've targeted the date 8.8.8, that's august 8, 08.
it's the first time that the republic of china will host the olympics. it's going to be historic that's for sure. and that's the reason why they have been preparing their country for a year, with all the advertisements, promotions.. i've heard that they've even developed an entire city just for tourism's sake.
wish i could go there and watch the games live. i bet it's going to be one hell of a historical event.. good luck to all participants and i'm sure all of them shall make some good histories.
i've embedded a beijing olympics welcome video. this link was given to me by a friend Antonio. ehehe. nice song indeed..
too bad Jackie Chan't the only celebrity familiar to us hahahah!

president arroyo's state of the nation address (SONA) 2008
SONA is an annual event where the president addresses the current status of the country. today, july 28, 2008, president gloria macapagal arroyo delivered her SONA at 4pm.
i didn't really stay tune while the president was proudly delivering her reports. yup, there's still EVAT coz this would make a huge impact and the majority of the population especially the poor shall be the one to suffer most. she did stated some pretty huge, we are talking billions, of budget for alloted for the different problems that the country currently faces. and hmm my friend mentioned to me that text messages will cost 0.50 cents per text. mabuhay si PGMA! mabugay ang bansang Pilipinas! hehe..
anyway, here is the transcript i found for the complete state of the nation address of president gloria macapagal arroyo for the year 2008.
i just hope each and every filipino would do their responsibilities and part in order to help our surviving country.

world trade center
i was able to attend this fhm's 100 sexiest victory party for the year 2008. it was held last july 17, 2008 at the world trade center.
the event was pretty crowded. wish i was taller. good thing i brought my good old camera with me i was able to shoot.
this set is what i called no look shots/ lucky shots set. i used my good old trusted tamron lens, 28-75mm f/2.8 (well in her case it's now 28-65mm since i get err99 when i set it to 70mm - 75mm, check out my previous post regarding this matter.). all shots were taken without looking. i just raised my arm and cam, point to anywhere and pressed the shutter button! haha! anyway, a lot of shots were blurred, out of focused, corpped subject, etc. but, i'm pretty thankful that i was able to get some decent shots.
as i was browsing and choosing for some shots to post, i was wondering if it was better for me to set the focus to manual and set it to infinity instead of setting the focus to auto focus.. hmm..
so here are just some of the photos i took from the event.
congratulations to this years sexiest, Marian Rivera and to all 100 ladies. more power to all. and of course, congratulations again to fhm philippines. more power!

2 reasons for me to greet my day with a smile
they are 2 big reasons for me to greet or start my day with a smile. my sister moved to the house right beside us a month ago. every morning my nephew, Gabe and, my neice, Shannon, would always drop by our home to have their breakfast.. sometimes (hmm most of the time i guess) they'd even get up earlier than me.
no matter what their moods are, they never fail to make us smile. :D

delara album
remember my post on the band about delara, the band formerly known as mojofly? well i was able to buy and listen to their album 2 days after my post last june 02, 2008.
i would say that i love Lougee! hahaha! their sound has evolved, totally different from mojofly's. the album contained 9 original tracks and, 2 bonus tracks (radio edited). released singles indclude smile and gumising. great songs.
it's exactly what they say, tha band may have had changed into a different name but they are the same old great opm band we love.

lomo effect (vintage)
lomography = cool photography. well at least that's what it is for me. i also wanted to have some lomo cams or toy cams. i got a fuji instax mini for myself. (haven't posted it here though)
anyway, i'm always in awe every time i see lomo photos. the look and the feel of them just give a different kind of effect. the down part of having a lomo cam is, it's quite expensive when you want to develop your shots and the accessibility or availability of the films since some of them are just being sold in special lomo stores.
since i don't have the budget to buy myself another lomo cam yet, i've decided to look for photoshop tutorials online that would somehow give our digital photos the same effect, or at least close to lomo's effects.
here is one tutorial i've found. pretty good turorial and easy to understand. not to mention that it produces a great lomo effect!
tutorial taken from freeonlineclasses.net visit it if you want to learn and try this effect for yourself.
below is an example of a photo i edited. followed the steps but i kinda played around the colors to achieve my taste for this photo. hope you like it!
before the effect.
the after effect.
thank you!

batman the dark knight
it's going to be in theaters this month! can't wait! i like batman better than superman among the dc characters. and the whole dark settings, it's awesome.
kudos to the writer, director and, the whole cast of this franchise, they are doing a great job. i think batman begins was the best batman movie ever. very realistic, without damaging the plot and the characters of its comic story line. it's just great.
here's the trailer of the movie, batman the dark knight.
with Christian Bale as the dark knight and the late Heath Ledger as the joker, the arch villain of batman.
Heath did great. i've seen this video a lot of times and it doesn't fail to give me goosebumps everytime i hear joker laughs.

shoot through
i purchased a set of light stand, umbrella and tilting bracket umbrella holder a few weeks ago. been busy these past few days so i didn't get enough chance to use it. not until last night.
the light stand i bought measured up to 6 feet tall. while the umbrella is an eclipse 2 in one (shoot through and bounce) is a 45 inches umbrella.
i only use my canon 430 ex external flash though. haven't got the budget to buy my own studio light. so i was able to shoot for a short time last night..
my umbrella was quite big. i still need to practice my lighting skills. they said that it's important to master single light photography first. then the rest shall follow.
i have no subjects last night except for my Belldandy figure which suffers from discoloration. her leg or knee was already in that situation when i received the goods.. that's the risk of buying online. haay. anyway, it's already done, the transaction already happened. but i still love belldandy hahahah!
also my brother in law with my nephew were also victimized as my first shoot through shoot subjects hahah!
here are just 2 photos both of them were shot using shoot through umbrella.
fun dad and child moment.
Belldandy with her swollen knee.. ToT'

canon prime lenses
which one??
waaah! my tamron lens already has a problem. i am planning to have it repaired but the thing is, i have to go to hong kong just to do that.
there are no service centers on tamron here in the philippines. i wish they would open one soon! but anyway, my lens is still usable, it's a 28-75mm f/ 2.8 by the way. i've been using it for over a year now. and now it has problem. my camera hangs (err99) everytime i zoomed/ shoot at 70mm and above. i can still use it at around 60mm to 24mm but still, sometimes it gets annoying for me to reset my camera every now and then when i forget about not zooming til 70mm.
so the next time i go to HK, i wish to have it fixed. hmm but right now, i'm considering of buying a new lens. thinking of buying prime instead of zoom lenses.
here are 2 lenses i'm considering. actually there are 3, but i guess the 85mm f/1.8 is out of the question since it won't provide you with rooms to shoot in most of the scenarios. and i want to get myself an UWA lens too! so i'm kinda out of the budget.
so i'm choosing either the canon ef-s 60mm f/2.8 macro or, canon ef 50mm f/1.4. both are superb lenses. they, of course, have their pros and cons over one another. but i'm a bit confused. i shoot figures and toys, so i guess the 60mm is going to be useful. but the downside of it is that it's ef-s. not that im going to buy a full fram cam soon, but i'm thinking of buying a lens for longer terms. since they are canon and both are great lenses. on the other hand, based on the reveiws i've read, 60mm has greater advantages. i mean, in terms of picture quality and all. haaay.. or should i just buy the UWA first? waaah! still planning to buy studio lights.. *sigh*.
canon ef-s 60mm f/2.8 macro.
photo taken from this site.
canon ef 50mm f/1.4.
photo taken from this site.
anyway. i won't be buying them very soon, well not that soon but they are already in my wish list. haaay.. can anybody please buy me a new lens??
can anybody help me decide on this? thank you! would really appreciate it!
